Arsenal Singapore AGM 2009/2010
Red Salvo was at the AGM last weekend and enjoyed the company of fellow Gooners. Also finally got his Gunner football fix by watching the first day of the Emirate’s Cup on the big screen. The AGM started later than scheduled, but dinner buffet was served ‘on time’.
One of the main highlights at the AGM was regarding a sponsorhip programme in collaboration with JSSL Arsenal Soccer School. The sponsorship is part of Arsenal Singapore’s effort to give back to the community.
The sponsorship offers an award to a local Arsenal Football Club fan aged between 9 and 11, from a needy family, to attend once-a-week football lessons at the JSSL-Arsenal Soccer School from September 2009 and take part in their Sunday league matches.
To qualify for the sponsorship, the junior Gunner will have to write an essay to express his interest in football and the reason he support the Arsenal FC. The most creative essay will win the sponsorship which allows the kid to play weekly football for about 9 months. The kid will also be provide with a full kit and football boots!
This is a great way to help develop character in a kid growing up in a rather testing environment. Football can help the kid become more confident with himself, sociable with his team mates and responsible to keeping to the training schedule and team coach decisions.
Besides that, football also helps the kid stay healthy and keep them away from other harmful acts such as smoking and fighting. I hope that junior Gunner will come forward soon! Application is now on until end of August. Get the details at the official Arsenal Singapore website.
