Arsenal Singapore AGM 2008

3 August 2008 478 views 4 Comments

At the Liz last night for the Arsenal Singapore AGM where Red Salvo was first announced over the mic (impromptu!). I have to say, it felt really good to be back at the Liz and catch-up with the rest of the Goonies. It was also a good opportunity to meet in person those whom I added on Facebook. At least they know I’m alive.

Had a good chat with Buang on replica kits stuff. Hopefully I’ll get my long sleeve kit just before the first Premier League game against WBA. Also caught up with Al regarding the email sent for the AGM. Basically I’m offering my office as a satellite point for Arsenal Singapore. The exco had a meeting and are in fact excited to have this. They just need to make sure some plans are put in place first.

So Al started off the AGM by first taking a bite at the pizzas served for the members. And then he officially started the AGM with some pictures of the past events done by Arsenal Singapore. It has been an eventful 07/08 season at the Liz with so many games shown live (and delayed) attended by the Gunner faithful. The absolute pious Goonies were even at the Liz at 6 a.m to watch a goalless delayed telecast against Slavia Prague. Pffft…

Patrick then showed some serious numbers (money matters) to let everyone know how the funds were managed. We raised more than S$2k at one charity thanks to a fellow Goonie who bought an autographed ball for S$2k. Super fanatic or super generous? I’m not sure, but big thanks to him!

Jin Yan then talked about the website stuff. It’s going for a little face-lift soon and apparently there needs to be more activities on the forum. Based on the statistics, the ArsenalSingapore.com has been receiving a healthy number of hits, promising but the forum needs to show some results (oh, how this sounds so much like describing Arsenal’s past few seasons!).

Kevin (stepped down from position of Vice President) then shared more stuff on the past events before the voting for the committee members started. Basically all the nominees became elected official exco members. Al had some trouble counting the voting hands, but we all trust this Ang Moh well enough. Tsk…tsk…

The final item on the AGM was questions posted by members. Only 2, and our suggestion on the satellite location was read out first. Hehe…happy la! The other question was about organising more football sessions among the Goonies.

When the chance came to speak on the mic, I took it and decided to mention Red Salvo. Of course, not before saying I got a little problem getting my forum account activated. Nonetheless, that is being sorted out. Jin Yan got in touch with me regarding the website bit. I look forward to contributing some work on the website through design creativity and perhaps some module development. The website runs on Joomla though, so most likely I’ll be contributing graphics like banners and such rather than programming modules.

So the AGM ended peacefully as per the Arsenal motto: Victoria Concordia Crescit (Victory grows out of harmony). I left the Liz to get some fresh air before returning for the Emirates Cup later. Look out for the next post where I give you my thoughts on the Gunners initiation to the competition, against The Old Lady.

hey there, nice chatting with you last night!

erm, ‘goonies’ is a lil non-standard usage, isn’t that like a movie or sumthin? anyway we are usually called ‘gooners’.

    COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!
