Arsenal 4 – Portsmouth 1
Abou started the game so brightly, it was as if he was reminding Le Boss that we don’t need Patrick V. Arsenal are now top of the league with a goal difference of 8! 6 goals at Goodison and now 4 at home, the Gunners have started the domestic league in top form.
A rusty looking Portsmouth were too easily dissected by the Gunner in all departments, and our midfielders were having the easiest of tasks to stroke the ball around the park. A skillful display by Dudu gave Arsenal the break when he sprinted past the defender and sent the ball into the 6 yard box. Abou arrived and finds the back of the net.
Just 4 minutes later, Abou adds his name to the scoresheet again when he showed confidence and composure to beat David James after collecting the ball squared by Eboue. Eboue by the way, was playing right-back but tormented the right flank like he was a winger.
Willy’s number 10 shirt has been the talk of the town. The number 10 is traditionally worn by the main striker in the team, and if anyone were to not know of Arsenal and Willy, they may be forgiven for thinking that he is a striker. 3 goals in 3 games from the french centreback is a very good record.
Having the ball bounced off his knee into his face, and rolling across the goal line may not have been pretty. But it all counts. In the course of scoring that goal, Willy also had his contact lense shifted and had to step off the field to get it adjusted.
Aaron came on for Cesc, who suffered what looks like a slight hamstring injury, in the second half and rounded the 3 points for Arsenal with a clever run and cool finish past the keeper. A convincing win, and a team of steel, the Gunners have started their season running full cylinders.
